TEACHING ATTITUDE TEST BATTERY (TATB)

The teaching aptitude means an interest in the teaching work orientation, implementing teaching principles and methodsTeaching is such activity which is helpful both teacher and their students. Both get benefit from this.So student teachers are often encouraged to take up the test to find out their score in teaching attitude. This test battery was constructed by Smt. Shamim Karim and Prof. Ashok Kumar Dixit. The test was conducted on 34 student teachers and their teaching aptitude was analysed.The resulting score obtained shows the areas of excellence of the pre service teacher.

INTRODUCTION

Teaching is the specialised application of knowledge, skills and attributes designed to provide unique service to meet the educational needs of the individual and of society. 
In its broadest sense, teaching is a process that facilitates learning.
The teacher requires two types of knowledge, content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge. It also requires two types of quantities personal and professional. If a teacher combines both types of qualities, in content and functional areas, he/she can achieve his/her objectives and may be called as a good teacher or an effective teacher in educational delivery process. Aptitude is considered to be an important characteristic of an individual, which can predict the future success, or failure of an individual in one occupation or areas of occupations. Aptitude may be described as a specific ability or a specific capacity distinct from the general intellectual ability, which helps an individual to acquire degree of proficiency or achievement in a specific field.

NEED AND SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Teaching profession requires people who have the  teaching aptitude because a person  who possess high aptitude for teaching is bound to be a successful teacher . The person entering in teaching profession should have cooperative nature, interest and scholarly taste, fair-mindedness and impartiality, moral character and discipline, optimistic attitude, motivational aspect and dynamic personality. In creative work like teaching and research, job satisfaction remains the sine – qua – non and plays a very significant role in attracting and retaining the right type of persons in the profession. By identifying and isolating the factors of dissatisfaction, attempts can be made either to change the dissatisfying conditions or to reduce their intensity so as to increase the holding power of the profession. 

AIM 

To find out the teaching aptitude in oneself.

OBJECTIVE
  • To find out the strong and weak points in myself

METHODOLOGY AND PROCEDURE

The tool used for measuring the attitude was prepared and standardised by Smt. Shamim Karim, lecturer of psychology department, Dhaka university and Prof. Ashok Kumar Dixit, department of psychology, Agra College. The tool consist of 80 questions to measure various parameters like co-operative nature, considerateness, wide interest and scholarly taste, far mindedness and impartiality, moral character and discipline, optimistic attitude, motivational aspect and dynamic personality.
 The sample selected were the 34 student teachers of St. Xavier's Training college for women. Thottakatukara, Aluva.

ANALYSIS AND INTERPRETATION

For the purpose of scoring the test marks are allotted for each response  3 marks for agree, 2 marks for doubtful and 1 mark for disagree respectively. The score obtained was analysed and the type of teacher aptitude was determined.

The Raw score range : 240 - 181,180 -136, 135- 106, 105 -81, 80 - 51.
Grade                         :        A              B            C           D           E
Interpretation             : most efficient, efficient, average, poor, very poor

The score obtained by me was 233 out of 240 and so I can safely assume that I belong to the category of the most efficient teachers.

 CONCLUSION

On the basis of analysis and interpretation of results I can safely assume that I belong to the category of most efficient teacher. My strong points include moral character and discipline , dynamic  personality. My weak point is on optimistic attitude. This test helped me to realise my strong points and areas where I should evolve more.
